Surgical Placement of a 2 Piece Inflatable Penile Prosthesis with Combined General and Regional Anesthesia: Step by Step Technique

Inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) placement is widely used for treatment of medically refractory erectile dysfunction (ED), with an estimated 20,000 penile implant procedures performed in the United States each year. In patients with prior pelvic or abdominal surgery, placement of a reservoir in the pelvis can be a complicated procedure due to possible retropubic scarring. The video covers the placement of a 2-piece IPP in a patient with a complex surgical history. We employ the use of a pudendal nerve block to avoid the use of intraoperative opiates (Figure 1). The video demonstrates a step-by-step technique for the pudendal nerve block and placement of the 2-piece IPP.
